Welcome!
Children use speech and language daily to process, learn, and connect with the world around them. Language development is multi-layered and children need to integrate many skills to become successful communicators. My name is Uma Kadekodi and I have the privilege of supporting children in the South Bay with their speech and language needs. I love partnering with families to create communication goals that will maximize their child’s success, while honoring each child’s diverse profile . I am currently offering individual therapy at my office in Torrance, and provide teletherapy upon request.
Comprehensive Pediatric Speech Assessments
Through thorough and engaging assessments, I evaluate each child’s unique communication strengths and areas for growth. My process includes a combination of structured observations, interactive play, and standardized tools, allowing us to understand speech, language, and social interaction skills fully. These tailored assessments guide the creation of personalized treatment plans, ensuring each child receives the support needed to thrive in communication and beyond.
Targeted Speech Therapy for Lasting Progress
My therapy sessions are designed to be both effective and engaging, focusing on each child’s specific communication goals. Using evidence-based practices, I create a fun and supportive environment where children feel empowered to practice new skills. Each session is tailored to promote speech clarity, language development, and social interaction, helping children build confidence and reach their fullest potential in communication.
Empowering Parents Through Coaching
I believe parents are essential partners in their child’s progress. Through personalized coaching, I provide you with practical tools, strategies, and guidance to support your child’s communication journey at home. Together, we’ll work to build skills and confidence, empowering you to make a positive impact on your child’s development every day.
About Me
My fascination with speech and language skills stemmed early in my undergraduate years when I was studying about the relationship between human psychological and communication skills. I graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and from CSUN with a master's degree in communications disorders and sciences.
Over the last 15 years of being in practice, I feel fortunate to have worked in a variety of settings, including spending 9 months in India working at a non-profit clinic focused on supporting children with autism and other neurodivergent individuals. I believe providing speech and language support should be a joyful process that is child-led with play at its core. I enjoy collaborating and working as a team with the caregivers and any other professionals involved.
Outside of my practice, my time is filled with raising two children. Spending time with my own children and helping to nurture their early language skills has been a beautiful way for me to connect my professional skills with my mom life at home. In my free time I continue to pursue my life-long passion for Indian classical dance, spend hours watching my children play sports or stay cozy at home cooking and reading with my kids.
Testimonials
“Working with Uma has been a transformative experience for our family. Her expertise, patience and personalized approach, especially her focus on the whole child not just speech therapy have significantly improved our child’s communication skills. We are incredibly grateful for her dedication and support. Highly recommend!”
“When our first child was not meeting his speech milestones, we were referred to Uma for speech therapy. We were new parents and were pretty scared about what the delay could mean, but Uma put our my minds at ease. She not only supported our child but also gave us tools to work on at home. Our child’s speech improved dramatically in a short period of time, and so did his self-confidence. Uma is kind, loving, intelligent, and overall amazing at what she does. I am now a firm believer in early intervention thanks to her. Our family will be forever grateful for what she did for us.”
“Our son has seen Uma for the last 3 years and I will say with confidence that I don't know where he would be had he not been lucky enough to have fit into her busy schedule. My husband and I are immensely grateful that we found someone who could not only keep our son on task, but also do it with such respectful kindness. She is eternally patient, gracious, smart and decisive. We had seen quite a few speech therapists over the years and found it's a rare and wonderful thing to find someone who also happens to be so warm and nurturing. As a parent, I found working with Uma was akin to entering a partnership where the sole purpose was to better my child's successes in the world. I can't say enough wonderful things about her!”
